Police body cam video shows Karmelo Anthony crying after fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a Frisco, Texas track meet in April 2025. A judge released the body cam footage to the public on Friday, June 19.
The judge also released footage taken from a stadium surveillance camera, as well as images of the utility knife Anthony tossed away as he fled.
Anthony was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison on June 9. Judge John Roach, who presided over Anthony’s trial, explained why he didn’t allow cameras in the courtroom.
“I understood the public’s desire to know what happened in the courtroom. The overwhelming focus on my ruling regarding the media in courtroom was to protect the process, witnesses, and jury. Now that the trial is over, it is important to me to provide transparency,” Judge Roach told Fox News.
The incident happened after Anthony, then 17, entered the Memorial High School tent seeking shelter from the rain. Metcalf, 17, told him to leave, but he refused. An argument ensued and Anthony reached into his backpack and warned Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.”
Witnesses say Metcalf “lightly pushed” Anthony who responded by plunging a knife into his chest. Afterwards, Anthony is seen running out of the tent and sprinting toward the stadium exit. He approached officer Eduardo Cortez and told him he acted in self-defense.
The officer searched Anthony twice after asking him if he had anything sharp in his pockets. Anthony wore a grey Essentials Fear of God hoodie and blue jogging pants.
When Cortez referred to him as the “alleged suspect,” Anthony responded, “I’m not alleged, sir, I did it.” Through tears, he told the officer, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to, he put his hands on me.” Anthony then asked Cortez if Metcalf was going to be OK.
